How to Delete the “Uncategorized” Category in WordPress

The Uncategorized category is the default category in WordPress. All posts from deleted categories, or posts with no category assigned, are automatically placed into this category. Because of this, you can’t delete the Uncategorized category—but if you want to get rid of the ugly name, here’s how to do it.

Log in to your WordPress admin dashboard. From the dashboard, go to Posts and click Categories. On the right side, you’ll see a list of all categories.

Hover your cursor over the Uncategorized category and click Quick Edit. Enter a new name, then enter a new slug that matches the new name. A slug is the search-engine-friendly version of the category name, which is why it should be written in all lowercase letters.

Click the Update Category button. You’ll notice that the name has changed and the Uncategorized category no longer appears in the list.

I hope you find this tutorial useful. Thank you for watching.
