How to Administer Web Disk in cPanel

Web Disk (WebDAV) allows users to manage website files just like local folders from their desktop OS. This guide walks through creating, managing, and troubleshooting Web Disk accounts via cPanel.

Prerequisites

  • Active hosting account with cPanel access
  • Domain/subdomain with valid SSL certificate
  • Web Disk feature enabled by your hosting provider

Log in to cPanel

  1. Navigate to https://yourdomain.com/cpanel
  2. Enter your cPanel username and password

Access the Web Disk Interface

  1. Search for Web Disk in the cPanel dashboard
  2. Click to open the module

Create a Web Disk Account (Optional)

  1. Scroll to Create an Additional Web Disk Account
  2. Enter:
    • Username
    • Password
    • Directory (e.g. /public_html/projects/john)
    • Permissions: Read-Only or Read-Write
    • OS Compatibility
  3. Click Create

Configure OS Access

  1. Click Configure Client Access next to the Web Disk account
  2. Select your OS and follow the steps:
    • Windows: Download configuration script or use Map Network Drive
    • macOS: Use Finder → Go → Connect to Server
Manual connection:
URL: https://yourdomain.com:2078/
Port: 2078
Protocol: HTTPS / WebDAV

Connect from Desktop

Windows

  1. Open File Explorer → Right-click This PC → Map Network Drive
  2. Choose a drive letter (e.g. Z:)
  3. Enter: https://yourdomain.com:2078/
  4. Enter Web Disk credentials
  5. Click Finish

macOS

  1. Open Finder
  2. Press Command + K → Connect to Server
  3. Enter: https://yourdomain.com:2078/
  4. Authenticate with Web Disk credentials

Manage Web Disk Accounts

  • Change Password: Update login credentials
  • Change Permissions: Switch between read-only and full access
  • Delete: Remove unused accounts

Troubleshooting Tips

Issue Solution
Can’t connect from Windows Enable Digest Authentication (if no SSL – not recommended)
SSL certificate error Ensure the domain has a valid SSL certificate
Access denied Verify permissions and directory path
Firewall blocking Open port 2078 in firewall

  • Web Disk ≠ FTP – different protocols and use cases
  • Prefer SSL (HTTPS) for all Web Disk access
  • Use directory restrictions for security
  • Disable Digest Authentication if SSL is used
